Les Jardins span 185,000 square feet. They are located along the Matane River, near the banks of the St. Lawrence River where you will find the Old Port, the Promenade des Capitaines, the salmon fishway and the Parc des Îles.
Open to the public since June 2001, Les Jardins present a growing collection of plant species. Come and observe the beauty of nature and enjoy the recreational spaces where children can have fun while you relax.
Our Botanical Collection
Few gardens have been created in such harsh weather conditions. Maintaining a garden in the Gaspésie region is a challenge that Doris and Sylvain overcome every year with the help of volunteers.
The flowering season is short, but the diversity of plants compensates for any unforeseen natural events that may occur, a real strength for Les Jardins de Doris! Among our horticultural collections, discover our giant rockeries, our marsh, our collection of bonsai, cacti and succulent plants, our aquatic pond where a variety of water lilies and aquatic plants bloom. In addition, the site is home to several noble trees that are rarely found elsewhere.
Our little houses and playful structures for children A garden for people of all ages
Revisit the classics of the tales of your youth with your children.
They will be amazed by Snow White's house, the houses of the three little pigs, Hansel and Gretel's gingerbread house as well as Goldilocks and Captain Hook's boat.
Then follow the trails to our famous giant chess set, 48 inches high..
It is the only one of its kind in Canada. You can even play a family game of chess if you want.
Discover also the day and night butterflies in our two aviaries. In the butterfly house you will find species such as monarchs and viceroys.
The moth aviary was built from vestiges of Matanese heritage. We observe the development of cecropia, a Saturnian caterpillar that feeds mainly on maples, cherry and birch trees.
Three different sundials are scattered on the site. One of them, the largest in Quebec (diameter 30 feet), ressemble a boat sail.
Mr. André Beaulieu, member of the Commission des cadrans solaires du Québec, is the creator of this project.
Our small animal park
With their goats, rabbits, peacocks, ducks, geese and butterfly aviaries, Les Jardins de Doris has everything to please young children.
What a joy for them to feed the goats and sheep! Fall in love with peacocks and, with luck, you will witness a magnificent parade. Right next door, the emus will surprise you with their drumming cry.
