With three people with disabilities, we started cleaning this abandoned site, a real wild spot at the entrance to the city of Matane. There was a lot of work to do, but we were convinced it was worth it! In the same year, Les Jardins de Doris obtained a certificate of authorization to operate a botanical and zoological garden. Gradually, until 2000, we invested in deforestation, the development of the stream, the creation of giant rockeries, small houses and a reception desk.
In 2001, we were able to officially open Les Jardins de Doris, which were then 40% developed. From that moment on, it was important for us to make visitors understand all the work that had taken place and the transformation from a wild area into sumptuous gardens.
From there, more and more young people began to take an interest in our idea. We were off on a new adventure. With fourteen volunteers, we made two tourist attractions: a giant rock garden and an observation tower. In 2003, Les Jardins de Doris acquired a gigantic sundial and a giant wooden chess set from Indonesia.
Since then, the gardens have acquired many entertainments to amaze people of all ages.
Looking forward to welcoming you in Les Jardins."
